Cherry Orchard - SIP Edition

Cherry Orchard - SIP Edition

A trip to Brentwood, California to pick the last bit of cherries gave our family a bit of reprieve from being cooped up. We took a drive north and visited G&S Farms where an empty orchard awaited us. My best friend was able to book the earliest time slot which helped with social distancing as the farm was pretty empty. The night before, I talked about what cherry-picking was and described what we’d do the following day at the orchard. With young kids, I find it best to prime them with what’s to come. The boys had gone strawberry picking last season, but they’re too young to remember any of it. I was pretty excited that the farms in Brentwood opened up to the public and offered reservation-based time slots to ensure social distancing.

With their baskets in hands and our face masks on, our family had a wonderful time roaming down the aisles and picking cherries. We talked about high vs. low, ripe vs. rotten, and most importantly, why you can’t eat the cherries off of the ground.
